Travel Web site calculates car rental gas costs - Sun-Sentinel.com

Kayak.com, the travel Web site aggregator, has a new gas calculator in its car rental section so travelers can figure the total cost of renting a car.
Kayak’s Fuel Cost Calculator considers a vehicle’s mileage by using manufacturer data and information from FuelEconomy.gov. Input the miles you think you’ll drive and it adjusts the cost of the daily rate in the search result.
You don’t see the cost calculator until you have entered dates and location. And you might spend more time researching. Because Kayak lets you compare prices across models, you may get sucked into figuring out how much pricier it would be to rent a convertible instead of a full-size car during a weekend in San Francisco. The calculator told us it would be $15 a day cheaper to rent a convertible PT Cruiser from Thrifty than a full-size Impala at Enterprise.
